In May, I was lucky enough to be selected for a foodie trip to the Maldives with Kuoni. On my travels, I got to visit 7 different Maldivian islands in the space of a week, all of which were stunning but also unique in their own individual way.
Out of the 7 islands I experienced, my favourite had to be Kandolhu Island, this island is tiny and only takes about 10 minutes to walk around it! It’s very intimate, secluded and has such a great vibe – the staff can’t do enough for you and the food is out of this world ! It offers an excellent house reef and as a treat, the Manager kindly arranged for us to go snorkelling where we spotted an array of colourful fish, reef sharks and even turtles! At Kandolhu Island, I was very fortunate to stay in a water villa – each of them were amazing, with direct access to the lagoon and phenomenal views across the Ocean from your bed and bathroom.
On island number two, our first night at Velassaru Maldives commenced with a private dining experience on the beach with champagne and canapés, we were then taken to their signature a la carte restaurant, Sands, where we had a spectacular 5-course meal under the stars! Sand is an elegant dining pavilion perched on powder-white sand and offers a mix of Eastern, Pan-Asian and Continental cuisines and even has live hot stone grill and cooking stations. This restaurant is a must when visiting Velassaru.
Continuing on to Maafushivaru, we were taken to their infamous Teppanyaki restaurant, which has a prime location on a pavilion over the lagoon, here we got to experience live cooking stations, a selection of delicious courses and the chef will even throw in a few tricks!
Next on the itinerary was the luxurious Baros Maldives. If you ever plan on visiting, definitely enjoy an evening meal in The Lighthouse Restaurant! For the ultimate experience, take a seat on the lighthouse deck and watch the fish and rays swim below, delight in a truly amazing gourmet dinner where your own sommelier will match the perfect wine to your dish.
Last but by no means least, Kurumba Maldives offers a wide choice of dining options, with 8 restaurants ranging from Italian to French, Indian, Middle Eastern, Teppanyaki and much more, you will be spoilt for choice! We spent our evening here at Thila, Kurumba’s signature grill restaurant, you can opt to dine over the water or beachfront, both have an equally incredible setting and atmosphere. I had an exquisite meal here, which consisted of a $95 steak accompanied by parmesan truffle fries, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! And if you’re a chocoholic, like I am, then I would definitely recommend the ‘The Bar’ for dessert, that’s if you still have room!
Out of all the holidays I have ever been on, my trip to the Maldives was by far the best! I got to stay on some incredible islands with amazing staff, exquisite food and luxurious accommodation; I feel very privileged to have been given the chance to go on this trip and would definitely recommend the Maldives to anyone looking for a little taste of paradise without a doubt, if you consider yourself a big foodie then the Maldives is the perfect place for you!
