A journey through Switzerland!
With its beautiful cities, tranquil lakes, mountain peaks and picture perfect landscapes; Switzerland is definitely a destination that needs to be ticked off the list! Whether you’re looking for a city break or a longer holiday, the country has so much to offer and there is something for everyone!
Our adventure started in the heart of the country in the stunning, historic city of Lucerne, just a 1 hour train journey from Zurich airport, the Swiss Rail system is so efficient and makes travelling around Switzerland completely stress-free!
Upon arrival we checked into the beautiful Grand Hotel Palace Lucerne, whose rooms offer magnificent views over the lake and city! 5 minutes to freshen up and we then began our walking tour of the city, Lucerne has so many selling points with its medieval buildings, covered bridges, cobbled streets lined with shops and of course the best feature- the lake! We then made our way to the dock where we boarded the boat for the idyllic sunset cruise around Lake Lucerne, complete with sparkling wine and antipasti’s, the lakeside villages were picture perfect and the sunset was incredible!
Next stop, Interlaken! Perfect for the outdoor lovers, the city offers glacier trekking, canyoning, hiking, paragliding, mountain biking and an array of other outdoor activities! The city is great for shopping and is so easy to explore on foot. The highlight of Interlaken has to be the famous ‘Harder Kulm’, take a funicular train up the mountains and enjoy the magnificent dusk lights of the valley below, you will also get the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous Swiss dinner at the Panorama Restaurant!
We spent the night at a picturesque hotel in Bonigen, just a five minute drive from the centre of Interlaken, this beautiful lakeside village is perfect for those looking to escape and it is so peaceful and quiet! We stayed at the quaint Seiler Au Lac Hotel, which sits right at the edge of Lake Brienz, I would definitely recommend a room at the front of the building as the views are out of this world!
Interlaken is the gateway to Junfraujoch, also known as ‘The Top of Europe’, sitting at 3454 metres above sea level, the train journey up through the mountains is absolutely spectacular! Witness tranquil villages, crystal blue lakes, snow-capped mountains and lush landscapes as you climb your way up through the mountains.
Junfraujoch is a must do experience and has so much to offer! Visit the Ice Palace whereby you get to walk inside a glacier, enjoy a delightful lunch in the restaurant, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try some zip-lining and before you leave make sure you visit the Lindt shop and buy some chocolate to take home with you!
Our journey through Switzerland ended in the beautiful mountainside village of Wengen, with its dramatic setting, this resort offers magnificent views. Wengen is extremely popular for hiking in the summer as it offers long hours of sunshine and endless meadows, it is also a car free destination so is extremely tranquil and peaceful- the perfect end to a busy schedule! We stayed at the charming Wengener Hof, the hotel offers spectacular views and is the perfect retreat! Sit back and relax in the impeccable gardens or take a 5 minute stroll into the village centre to do a bit of shopping in the boutiques or enjoy a meal in one of the Swiss cafés!
