When you’re in Vietnam, the best way to indulge in the local cuisine is through its diverse street food markets. In Ho Chi Minh City you’ll find the new ‘Street Food Market’ which offers something for everyone – you can choose your own fish, lobster or crab from the tank and watch the stall holder cook it fresh right before your eyes, or you can try the freshly-made spring rolls which are made on demand.one

My favourite station was ‘Grill Food’ where they offer over 20 different skewer options with teppanyaki beef, chicken, swordfish, vegetables, pork and much, much more! Watching my food being personally prepared and designed just for me, for less than £5, was an experience like no other!

If you fancy trying your hand at being a chef then why not order a barbecue meal in Hanoi’s famous Beer Corner. Sitting on plastic chairs, huddled with fellow ‘wannabe’ chefs you are presented with raw meats of your choice (including crocodile!) which you are left to cook on portable barbecues. The heat and the hustle and bustle all add to the experience and makes you realise how vibrant Vietnam is!

A visit to Vietnam is not complete without a cruise in Halong Bay. Not only is the scenery breathtaking but the food is also out of this world. When you first board, the boat’s dedicated cooks serve a buffet lunch filled with fresh fish, herbs and pastries. You are then then spoilt with a five-course tasting menu offering everything from delicious salads, soups, prawns and chicken to banana-filled crepes for dessert. Make the most of happy hour and enjoy drinks while looking up at the stars in the crystal-clear sky.

While in Danang I was fortunate enough to sample some of the most beautifully presented food that I came across during my time in Vietnam. The Fusion Maia Danang hotel served an incredible lunch which definitely awakened all of the senses!
The elegant starter of classic Vietnamese spring rolls, chicken skewers and beef wrapped in leaves, with a combination of flavours such as grapefruit, onion, lemongrass and chilli catered to all palettes.

This was followed by the best chicken curry I have eaten in a very long time! The idea of serving the curry within a coconut was not only unusual but created even more delight when I began to dive in; with the warmth of the curry melting the inside of the coconut and into the sauce.

This delicious lunch was topped off with a dessert that would please anyone with a sweet tooth! An amazing blondie with hot chocolate sauce and ice-cream was the perfect way to end a lunch that provided a spectacular contrast to the street food of Vietnam.
